Our Story
We are an international coalition of families who have been impacted by the brain disorder, Disruptive Mood Dysregulation Disorder (DMDD). Joined by medical professionals and community members, we have seen firsthand the life-transforming results of the brain-based treatment that targets DMDD at its root. We are a licensed 501(c)(3) non-profit organization based in the United States.
The parents in our group hail from across the United States and as far away as Australia,
Canada, Israel, and beyond, having spent years exhausting all medical (and even alternative) treatment options for our mentally suffering children. Various approaches have involved many medication trials - including antipsychotic drugs - hospitalization and therapy to no avail. Instead of gaining hope, we had to keep fighting to find an effective treatment for our children.
Armed with information, we each created partnerships with our local doctors to implement a treatment plan that we discovered after intensive research. As a result, and to our astonishment, we have each witnessed a life-changing transformation in our children - all due to the utilization of detecting and targeting the root cause of DMDD in the brain, instead of typical symptom management.
The parents in our coalition have banded together, feeling a moral obligation to share the game-changing treatment that has stabilized our children, so that others can be spared the devastating effects of severe mental illness. We found the pathway to healing that has kept our children out of the hospital and thriving, in various areas of life, for the first time. This treatment saved our kids, our marriages, and our families. We want this hope available for ALL.
This method is not a perfect fix that eliminates all symptoms. It requires monitoring for side effects, checking blood levels, making dosing changes, and adapting as children grow, especially during puberty. But, don’t worry, you are not alone on this journey. We have created several documents in the Family and Medical Professionals sections of this website, including Tips & Tricks of the brain-based treatment to help you navigate your way to success. As with any medication regimen, it is important to set realistic treatment goals and build a strong awareness of your child’s overall physical and mental health.
New Diagnosis and NO Standard of Care
In 2013, the medical community created a new diagnostic code in the DSM-5 called Disruptive Mood Dysregulation Disorder (DMDD). This childhood disorder is characterized by chronic irritability, anger, and frequent, intense temper outbursts inappropriate to the situation and the child's age. Symptoms are shown in more than one environment (i.e.: home, school, etc..) and typically begin before the age of 10, but the diagnosis is not given to children under six or over 18 years of age.
For years, children and adolescents with severe neurobehavioral symptoms have either been incorrectly diagnosed as having pediatric bipolar disorder or have had physicians or therapists declaring these children are beyond help. They are often administered the wrong kinds of medication to treat this illness, leaving families with false hope. Without the correct diagnosis or effective treatment, these children are left dealing with a debilitating mental illness. The impairment is so extreme that family life is in a constant state of crisis. Many are unable to attend school, maintain friendships, or participate in unsupervised group activities. In some cases, hospitalization or even residential treatment is required.
Since this is a fairly new diagnosis, we do not have decades of documented research or standard of care protocols taught at medical schools or utilized across the board by all medical practitioners. The situation is far from ideal. There is a significant need for more understanding about this neurological disorder that presents with psychological and behavioral symptoms. Despite these obstacles, many families have found stability with a brain-based treatment that often provides astounding stabilization for children with DMDD.
Working Towards a Better Future
As parents of children with DMDD, we have each navigated the mental health maze for years. While living in chaos, we have searched for effective treatment for our suffering children. Finding victory for our own children is not enough. We are working tirelessly to ensure that the same results are available for ALL children and adolescents experiencing severe neurobehavioral symptoms.
Our Mission
The mission of Revolutionize DMDD is to help transform the lives of children and adolescents suffering from Disruptive Mood Dysregulation Disorder (DMDD). We provide support for families, schools, and medical professionals by sharing the brain-based treatment and overall philosophy of care to promote successful outcomes.
Our Vision
We envision a world where the standard of care to treat all children with DMDD is directed at the root cause of their symptoms.
We Believe
● In science, research, and innovation.
● Every child deserves the opportunity to live a healthy life free of mental torment.
● Patients benefit when medical specialists from neurology and psychiatry collaborate.
● There IS hope for the most challenging cases - no child should ever be given up on.
● Life-saving treatment should be available for ALL who need it.
● Once physicians see firsthand the life-transforming results of the brain-based treatment, they will use it as the standard of care.
